PJH Designs

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful week.

My thoughts and prayers are still going out to everyone in the Northeast as they struggle to recover from hurricane Sandy.

If you would like to help here is the link to the Red Cross online donation page.  You can give to the national page or to your local Red Cross chapter.  http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations

I have good news for those of you that enjoyed my Free Graphic Wednesday. I will be adding more images starting November 7, 2012! So be sure to come back by and check out all the new free graphics.

Speaking of graphics how do you like my new look? It doesn't make me look fat does it? lol No, really I love it and hope you do too. I would like to thank Michelle Baird at Shabby Creations for designing my blog's, Facebook's, & Twitter's new appearance. Now on to the features from last week's party.

Pumpkin to Pearl?!

First of all I would like to send my thoughts and prayers to everyone that was in the path of Sandy. I hope you are all well and that your life will be back to normal soon.

Well gosh, I hope everyone else had a happy and safe Halloween!

In case I haven't told you already...I don't like Halloween. Oh, I love the kids in their cute costumes and I definitely love all the candy!  It's the decorations I don't like. Decorate my home in orange and black? Yuck! ;-)

I have to say that many of you have shown me that Halloween decor can have an elegant look if done right. I may try decorating next year. So all you Halloween lovers out there don't hate me!

That's why I waited until now to share my fall pumpkins with you because they are certainly not orange! :-)

I love the finish I achieved on these.  It is hard to get a picture that shows you the true color, but they look very much like a pearl.

I tried different settings on my camera attempting to capture the color.  I hope you can see why I think they look like pearls.

This one was in early morning light.

Okay, here is what you need to do to make your own pearl pumpkins.

An unfinished ceramic pumpkin, paint brush, graphite ASCP, white acrylic paint, silver glaze, and glass glitter.

First, I applied a base coat of graphite chalk paint.

After that dried I applied white, acrylic paint. As I was brushing it on I was being sure to leave some of the dark showing in the creases to highlight the shape.

I then applied two coats of a silver glaze and before it dried I just sprinkled on some silver glass glitter.

The stems I painted graphite.

So easy.

I hope you like them.  Who knew? Pearl pumpkins. lol
Have a wonderful day.

Totally Transformed Tuesday #12 & Features

Totally Transformed

Hello friends, things are still busy around here but not as crazy as last week.

Here is what I shared this week on my blog. This lovely antique china cupboard that I painted with my own mix of ASCP.

You may read more about the transformation here.

I will soon be sharing the process of turning my storage building into a sealed workshop. I will be giving tutorials on putting in insulation, preparing the building for sheetrock, installing sheetrock, floating it, creating a work bench, etc... This will be great information for someone remodeling their home or building a home also.

Also, their will soon be a new look to my blog and FB page. I'm excited and hope you will like the changes.

Okay, enough chit chat on to this weeks features.

Erica over at Tattered Elegance shared her beautiful makeover of this French Provincial China Cabinet. Gorgeous job Erica

Judy at Vintage Street Designs shared this gorgeous cupboard painted with Ce Ce Caldwell's chalk paint. Love the color and the graphic she chose.

Deidre at Simply Simplisticated share her gorgeous red chalk paint dresser makeover. Gorgeous.

Jill at Sew A Fine Seam shared her chair's lovely new look. This is a drop cloth folks. So pretty and fresh.

Catherine over at Freddy and Petunia shared her makeover of these gorgeous iron chairs. Love the fabric. Love the love and peace backs of the chairs.

Please folks the reason for a link party is for us to share or work with each other and to build traffic to our blogs. So take a minute to visit others that have linked up. There is so much talent and inspiration out there!

Before & After China Cabinet

Hello everyone hope your having a great day.  I just wanted to check in and share a quick before and after.

I picked up some great pieces recently at a auction and this is the last large piece of the group.

I loved the details and those curves! Oooh, la, la!

Here is the before.

It was painted a yucky, brown color from the 1930's and the inside back and shelves were different colors.

Without sanding I painted it with my mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Chantilly Gray, Tearose for the back, and just white latex for the shelves.

Once that was dry I applied a coat of clear wax and let dry. I then made a wash of ASCP Pure White & water. Using 1 part paint to 5 parts water.

I applied this to all the gray in sections wiping away with a dry cloth and leaving more white on the detailed areas.

I then distressed it and added another coat of wax inside and out.

So there you have it. I'll leave you with more pictures that I hope inspire you to give this technique a try.
