Small Coffee Table Redo

Hello everyone I hope you had a wonderful week. :-)

I'm feeling much better and have been working on several pieces including an antique pie safe I picked up at an auction recently.

Today I'm sharing a small table redo that I recently finished and carried to King's Antiques.

I'm not sure how you are going to take the finish I applied to this piece, but I enjoyed how the colors peeked through so much on the blanket chest I recently re-furbished I wanted to explore that look some more.

This is what I started with a nice, vintage, solid wood table.  I lightly sanded the piece just because I'm kind of weird and sometimes I just like to sand things! As I was using chalk paint it really wasn't necessary. I then thoroughly cleaned it.

Next I roughly painted the entire piece in patches with ASCP in Versailles Green, Greek Blue, and Duck Egg Blue. When that was thoroughly dry I applied a healthy coat of Old White.

My next step was to print the ballet fairy I found at The Graphic's Fairy onto tissue paper and transfer it to the center top of the table.  On the sides of the table I used tissue paper flowers from a napkin, and on the bottom center roses from a napkin.

When decoupaging tissue paper start by applying your decoupage medium to the area you want your image, and apply the image starting at the center and moving outward using a brush loaded with Mod Podge. Be sure to only use a couple of strokes in each area as the tissue will dissolve easily.

Once that was dry I took sandpaper and distressed the edges of the images to blend them to the piece better.

I then waxed the entire piece with clear paste wax and heavily distressed the entire piece. Then applied another coat of clear wax and lightly buffed.

I really liked how you could see all the colors showing through as if the piece had been painted time and again.  You may even think that at one time there were more images on the top.

Hope you enjoyed this quick little redo.

You know what I like about what I do? If I paint something no one else likes I can always keep it myself! LOL Or if I have the time, and feel like it, I can sand it down and repaint it. It's all fun to me.

Have a wonderful weekend and by the way I appreciate each and everyone of you that check in to see what I've been up to. I'm honored that you like what I do.

I'm Baaack!! & Another Bed to Porch Bench

Hello everyone! Boy have I missed ya'll! I'm so glad to have my Internet back up and running.  It took fooorEEver!

Even though I haven't been posting on my blog I have still been busy.  I've been making cute things for a baby shower  and painting up a storm.

The first thing I'm going to share with you is another bed head & foot board turned into a porch bench.  Here's the after.

This was a twin size vintage bed.  I thought I took a picture of it before it was cut up and painted but couldn't find one.  Sorry. When making one of these you just need to be sure to cut the foot board into two pieces that are at least 14" deep.  I use 2 x 4's for the seat.

After my sweet husband put the bench together for me per my instructions I painted it with ASCP in Duck Egg Blue and Old White.  Once it was dry I was ready to apply the images. You will need the following:

tissue paper with images (either printed from your computer onto tissue paper or images from a napkin)
scissors
Mod Podge
brushes

I'm really into doing tissue decoupage.  They look so much more like hand painted pictures, although they are very delicate, and difficult at times to work with. First, cut out your images.

The images I used are cut from napkins. Once you have them cut out you separate the two layers so that you only have the one thin layer the image is on. (By the way I was trying to do this outside during the time Isaac was hitting New     Orleans.  It was sunny here in northeast Texas but the wind gust were 30 mph! To say the least I had quite a time holding onto those little flowers! lol)

You can see in the above two pictures the two thin layers I am separating.

Next apply a coat of Mod Podge to the area you want to apply the image.

Take your image and using your thumb press the center area of the picture to the area you have Mod Podged.  Working from the center out and with very light strokes apply Mod Podge to the entire image.  DO NOT USE MORE THAN 2 OR 3 STROKES OF BRUSH ACROSS EACH AREA.  More than that will usually make the tissue paper dissolve. Also, do not apply a thick coat of the Mod Podge.  Once it dries it will be hard and you can apply more coats.

After I had applied all of the images I applied three more coats of Mod Podge allowing it to dry between each coat.

Once that was completely dry I applied a coat of ASCP clear wax to the entire bench.  I then distressed it in the appropriate areas.  To finish I applied two coats of a spray on non-yellowing polyurethane.  And there you have it a new/old bench to laze away the afternoons on.

Are you ready to give it a try? Go for it! I know you can do it!  If I can anyone can. :-)

Totally Transformed Tuesday will be back up next week so be ready to share!  I will chose favorites from the last TTT we were able to have about four weeks ago.

Have a wonderful weekend,
