Welcome That New Baby With Angel Wings

 Hello everyone!

I'm so excited to back and sharing with you what I've been up to.

I've been making the cutest door hangers to welcome that new baby.

I start out by making my wire form in the shape of angel wings. Then I stretch bridal lace across them and hand sew to the wire.

Next, I add my trim which could be a boa or various ribbons like the camouflage ribbon on this boy's hanger.

I then add cute little bears that hold a pacifier and ribbon with miniature baby items like pacifiers and rattles.

Last I take chipboard letters for the new baby's name, paint them to match, and attach them to the ribbon.

I hope you have enjoyed my angel wing door hangers.

They are available to order just email me for details or go to my Etsy shop. I ship and take credit cards.

Its been so long since I posted I would love to hear from you so please leave a comment to let me know how you are doing.

Hugs,

Here's What's Happening at PJH Designs

Hello everyone! I've been missing you and hope you are having a wonderful week. It is really starting to look like Spring here in north-east Texas and I hope the sun is shining in your little corner of the world.

I thought I would check in and just share a couple of my recent furniture before and afters. I find I am enjoying restoring antique furniture more and more, but my first love is  painting it, especially with chalk paint.

So without further ado here they are.

I found this ca.1840-60 solid oak dresser at an estate sale in a storage shed. I have to admit that I couldn't see it very well and really didn't know what I had until I got home with it and really looked it over, but i could see the top of the mirror and knew I should grab it before someone else did.

I'm sorry I could not get a picture of the full dresser as it is about six feet tall when put together and I have a small dining area. Gorgeous oak! And that's the original hardware cleaned up with a little Brasso and a lot of elbow grease.

The mirror swivels and the oak carvings are just lovely.  I found out during the stripping process that at first it was stained, then someone at some point painted it with a bright green milk paint, and finally (to my horror) someone DISTRESSED that beautiful oak! They burned it, beat it, hammered it, and put some kind of ink all over it then applied the finish. What a mess!

They had also painted the sides of the hardware black. I had to replace all but one of the small pieces that help the drawers slide and fill in a couple of spots where small chunks were missing and someone had already made a repair just under the top on the right side. Still, for its age it is in great shape.

In the end it came out beautiful with only two small low areas in the top. I was really excited to see after I posted it on Hometalk that they featured it on their Facebook and so far it has received over twenty thousand views! Thanks Hometalk!

Please ignore my messy shop. I never seem to have time to really clean it. :-( I found this heavy, solid wood mirror at a flea market. What a prize! I knew I could do something really pretty with it and loved the soft patina on the mirror.

I added some appliques, painted it with French Linen and Graphite, then gave it sparkle with silver gilding wax.

I think it came out pretty classy. (Yes, all my pictures are taken with my ipad these days.) :-)

A client brought me this adorable little dresser she wanted refurbished for her granddaughter. I had so much fun doing this piece.

I added cherub corner appliques to the mirrors and for the drawers I used some pretty, little, plaster rose pulls I had been saving for something special.

I mixed three colors of Annie Sloan chalk paint to get a pink to match the pulls then used lace as a stencil and off white for the design on the drawer fronts.

So, there you have some of the pieces I have worked on since I last posted on my blog. If you would like to follow me a little closer you should like my Facebook page as I post regular updates and items that are for sale on there.

I'm headed to Canton, First Monday Trade Days this weekend. Can't wait to find some treasures!

If you are like me, and celebrate Easter, have a wonderful holiday!

God Bless until next time,

Looking Back On 2014

Hello all my bloggerette friends! Yes, I'm still kicking and I thought I would take a few minutes to share a some of the pieces I refinished in 2014.

I know I haven't been posting on my blog, but when I wasn't recovering from a shattered shoulder blade I have been painting furniture. I have also decided to not spend as much time blogging so that I have more time to actually work.

So without further ado here are a few things I refurbished this year, and what I hope will be some inspiration for you in 2015.

I had so much fun this year painting found frames, mirrors, and home decor.

All painted using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint of course.

I picked up another jewelry armoire and went lavender with cute graphic details.

The images are courtesy of the Graphics Fairy.

I added appliques and dry brushed this antique cabinet white, and painted the inside Emperor's Silk for a friend.

This antique dresser got two coats of Duck Egg blue and Old White. I added appliques to the mirror, lace details to the drawers, and transferred an image to the top.

The inside of the drawers were painted Antoinette Pink for a nice surprise.

The image is transferred onto the piece not decoupaged.  This dresser is still available at "The Ole Country Crow Antiques" in Vivian, LA.

Here's a little end table I refinished for a client to match her painted bed.

Another cute little occasional table.

I've been doing more small pieces as my shoulder heals.

We recently had some remodeling done and I transformed a few things in my home to match. This is my 1980's hutch that I added appliques to the doors and painted it with Old White and Paris Gray. I then antiqued it with a black metallic glaze to give it a soft sheen. I love how it turned out!

In my master bedroom I added an antique, brass chandelier that I painted Louis Blue. I also added some vintage shutters and  decorated an old window above the bed.

The design in the window was done with wall appliques. They match my bedding.

Now I'm considering painting my sleigh bed. Should I or shouldn't I? :-)

Finally, I added trim to match what I had done on the end of the bar (remember? No? Go here) to the back of it. I also added some of my tin ceiling tiles to the back of the bar. I then antiqued it with a black glaze, to bring out the details and age it, and sealed it with a clear sealer.

Well that is what I have been up too this year. I hope you  had a wonderful year and completed all the projects that you wanted to complete.

All of my best wishes for you and your families for the coming Holidays.

Lovely "Duck Egg Blue" and Lace Dresser

Hello everyone! I have really been missing visiting with all of you and hope you are all well.

I'm not doing as many furniture pieces as I once was since I closed my booth at Kings Antiques in Shreveport, but I still do an occasional piece and sell it on-line.

This dresser I've had for a long time and it was much too plain for my taste. Yes, it is an antique ca. 1910, and yes, I painted it.

It had some veneer damage and I decided not to restore it because, to be honest, it just wouldn't sell.

I hope you like it. I certainly had fun painting it.

I'm sorry for the quality of the pictures as I accidentally left my good camera out in the rain and had to take these with my I-Pad.

Here is the before picture. Quite a difference huh. :-)

The mirror tilts but was very plain so I added some wood appliques.

I painted it in Annie Sloan's " Duck Egg Blue" then added the lace with an off white.

On the top, just for fun, I added a period image of a lovely lady from my vintage, image collection.

The drawers are painted with "Antoinette Pink" for a nice surprise. And the top two have a crown image.

As you probably noticed the top two drawers have small, cut crystal-like pulls and the bottom two drawers have large, porcelain, white floral pulls.

To finish the dresser I distressed it and then gave it a tea stain using a light colored stain, and lastly two coats of wax.

Its has been so good to visit with all my bloggy friends. I hope you like this piece and I hope you are having a wonderful summer.

Please keep in touch.
