Before & After China Cabinet

Hello everyone hope your having a great day.  I just wanted to check in and share a quick before and after.

I picked up some great pieces recently at a auction and this is the last large piece of the group.

I loved the details and those curves! Oooh, la, la!

Here is the before.

It was painted a yucky, brown color from the 1930's and the inside back and shelves were different colors.

Without sanding I painted it with my mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Chantilly Gray, Tearose for the back, and just white latex for the shelves.

Once that was dry I applied a coat of clear wax and let dry. I then made a wash of ASCP Pure White & water. Using 1 part paint to 5 parts water.

I applied this to all the gray in sections wiping away with a dry cloth and leaving more white on the detailed areas.

I then distressed it and added another coat of wax inside and out.

So there you have it. I'll leave you with more pictures that I hope inspire you to give this technique a try.

Totally Transformed Tuesday #11 & Features

Totally Transformed

Oh my gosh! It has been a crazy week around here! Let me just catch you up on what's happening before we get the party started.

First, and the best thing to happen is my new grandson, Bowen. Sorry I know this is a painting furniture and antiquing page but I'm a proud Grandmother, or as I like to be called, Nonnie.

Here he is on the way home yesterday. So precious.

The next exciting thing happening is this:

I know. It doesn't look very exciting but for me it is!
This is a 12' x 16' storage building I'm having turned into a sealed work shop! It will be so nice to have a dedicated place to work on my furniture that has heat and air! I'm here to tell you it gets HOT during the summer in Texas!

I will be sharing with you how we go about finishing the inside including how to install electrical, insulation, sheetrock, etc...

Now here are a couple of furniture pieces I finished this week.

A side table painted with chalk paint and milk paint with a Dutch chocolaat graphic. You can see the full post here.

I also just finished this antique china cabinet. I painted it with two of my new colors Tearose and Chantilly Gray. After painting the gray I then applied a wash of Pure White. I will be doing a separate post about this piece soon. (Don't you just love my large pink and white roses with French text I picked up at Hobby Lobby?)  :-)

Now on to my favorite but most difficult part of the week. Features. There are always so many lovely post to choose from. I would like to thank each and every one of you for linking up every week. I try to get by and read every post.

The most clicked link this week was Penny's post on decorating with cloches over at Penny's Treasures. If you haven't checked out all her lovely ideas be sure to hop on over and visit.

Rachel at Shades of Blue Interiors shared her take on a traditional Union Jack dresser. Beautiful job Rachel.

Suzan over at Simply Vintageous showed us what a wonderful eye she has for finding and restoring furniture. I always love reading her post as she has a wonderful sense of humor.

Peggy at The Painted Pear shared her lovely dollar store pumpkin makeovers. I loved them all Peggy thanks for sharing.

Jamiee at Craft Interrupted showed us how to take toilet paper rolls and make the cutest Halloween poppers. Be sure to stop by and get the complete tutorial.

Vicki from The Quirky Quail shared how she recycled her wedding dress. A truly lovely story Vikki thanks for sharing.

Kathryn at The Dedicated House shared the recipe for these yummy chocolate peanut butter balls.

Thank you ladies for sharing your talents with us last week. If you were featured be sure to grab a button.

Dutch Chocolaat Side Table

Hello everyone I hope you had a wonderful week.
It has been a little crazy around here as my daughter had her third child, a boy named Bowen, prematurely.  Mother and son are fine and are suppose to be able to come home tomorrow. Isn't he just precious?!

Before all this happened I did finish a few pieces of furniture including this ca.1968 side table.  I thought I had taken a before picture but was unable to find it.  Sorry. It is a solid wood table and was stained with a medium, dark, orange stain.
I started out by painting the whole table with "Soldier Blue"  milk paint.

I did not use the bonding agent as I wanted the table to have a distressed look.  If you don't add the bonding agent to milk paint it will not adhere like regular paint in spots, and as a result you can just scrape the loose spots away and voila, your piece is distressed.

If you look at the top you can see the areas that had loose paint.

I changed my mind about what I wanted to do and painted the top only with "Old White" chalk paint. Changing her mind is still a woman's prerogative isn't it? :-)

Once that was dry I added an image from The Graphics Fairy using decoupage.  I chose a Dutch chocolate ad and applied just the image with Mod Podge and free handed the words with Expresso paint and a fine, artist, paint brush.

I then applied an antique glaze tinted with Expresso paint to the entire table wiping it away with a dry cloth.  After the glaze dried I took a sanding block and distressed the entire table again.

The streak across this picture is a rainbow reflection from my chandelier. I just couldn't get rid of it! lol

Once everything was completely dry I applied two coats of clear wax to seal it.

I hope you have enjoyed this little make over and that I have inspired you to try milk paint. It is very easy to work with and if you want it to bond like regular paint just buy the bonding agent and add it according to instructions.
If you would like to see another post on using milk paint go here.

Just a little reminder. Don't forget to link up this week at Transformed Tuesday. Just click the button above.

Until next time keep on creating and up-cycling!
