Black And White Secretary Redone

Yeah! I'm finally sharing a finished piece of furniture!

I really like how this piece turned out even though I couldn't do what I originally planned.  Here is the finished secretary.

It looks good next to my refinished antique chair I decided to keep don't you think?  Now here is the before.

As you can see it was in very rough condition. I had already filled in around the loose veneer with wood filler in this picture.  The back of it was shot and had to be replaced. The hinge on the desk was broke, and a knob was missing.

My intention was to stain the drawer fronts and paint the rest but after stripping it I was not pleased with how the wood-grain looked. It was just plain. Not pretty at all.

I applied a wood applique to the front then primed it and painted it with Annie Sloan's Pure White and a latex black paint.

Since it is a desk I went with these alphabet knobs I picked up at Michael's.  Once it was painted I waxed the entire piece with Annie Sloan's clear, soft wax and slightly distressed it. No antiquing as I wanted it to have a clean, fresh look.

The inside is black and I painted the little drawers white and their knobs black.  I also installed two, new hinges for strength. I then waxed and distressed to give it a used look it was just too new looking.

I've finally started putting out my Spring and Easter decor.
I'm not one to do a lot of decorating during the holidays, just little vignettes here and there.

Okay, back to the secretary. I stenciled a design on the sides of the drawers for a nice surprise and painted the inside of the them black.

I love this shelf paper I found at the dollar store.

My Mother embroidered the honey bee teapot picture. Her needlework was always so beautiful. Sweet memories.

I just love my little miniature crown purchased from Rosemary at Villabarnes.  Isn't it so adorable and pretty! She makes them from left over metal pieces she finds at flea markets and various sales. A very talented lady.

I hope you enjoyed this makeover and it inspired you in some way to get out and take something old and make it like new again.

Also, don't forget to hop over to Transformed Tuesday and link up your latest project! Don't miss out on all the fun.

I'm so glad you stopped by. Have a wonderful week.

Hugs,
