Recent Purchases & Thrifty Finds

Hello , I thought I would take a minute to share some pretties I recently acquired.

Have you heard of "Decor Steals" formerly "Wuslu"?  I love them and have bought several items from their web site. They have an unusual site in that they post two or three items and you vote on your favorite. The one with the most votes is the one they sell.

Also, I believe it is once a month that Miss Mustard Seed picks out her favorite product for them to sell and they are usually fabulous items. So fun!

Anyway, here is a couple of things I recently purchased from them.

My most recent purchase is the zinc look bird cage on a stand. Don't you just love it? I wanted a bird's nest flower arrangement in it so I took it to my favorite local florist shop, New Beginnings.  They always do a wonderful job for me and you may find their Facebook page here.

I also bought the faux, mercury glass candlesticks from Decor Steals. So delicate and pretty.

I know, my candles don't exactly match but they are close. :-)

I love the little chalkboard and the little bird on top don't you?  If you've been following me for awhile you've probably picked up on the fact that I love birds.  I have two, real, zebra finches and all kinds of bird decor around my home.

The pink and white hand, crocheted, table runner you've seen before and I found two of them at a local flea market.

The pretty, rose, salt and pepper sets came from a flea market on a recent trip out of town.  I was so excited when I saw them because I had been searching for something like them for quite awhile.  The little birds came with a bird themed, china set I bought on sale at Dillard's.

I hope you enjoyed my recent acquisitions and that you are inspired to add a few bird items to your home.

On another note you probably noticed my new button on the right.  I am now offering ad space at very reasonable prices.  I would love to help you grow your blog. Just click the button to find out more.

One more thing don't forget to come back later tonight and join the link party.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Hugs,

Stamped & Stenciled Telephone Table

How are you? Well, I hope. :-)

I'm so glad you stopped by because I wanted to share another small table I recently refurbished.

This is a vintage, telephone table. You know, we used to have phones that sat on a table or hung on the wall that we dialed numbers on? Oh, Come on! It wasn't that long ago. lol

So back then if we didn't just sit them on an end table we had either a telephone table or a "gossip bench", which was a chair with sort of an arm on the side. Like the one below.

Anyway, I could not find my before picture to share with you. Sorry. My bad. :-(

This table had one open shelf underneath that was closed in on the sides with lattice like pieces. Well, I couldn't save them as they just disintegrated as I was trying to glue them back together, so I cut small pieces of thin wood to fit, and just replaced them.

Here's the finished table.

After replacing those side pieces I made a couple of other small repairs and scrubbed the whole table down as it was
fil-thy!

Once it was clean I gave it a coat of Gripper primer just because I wanted some white to show through when I distressed it.  After the primer dried I gave it a coat of ASCP in "Louis Blue."

*Here's a tip: when painting with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint or any chalk paint have a cup of water handy and just barely dip your brush in the water and then into the paint.  This allows the chalk paint to apply smoother and easier.

Next I chose one of my favorite stamps from my scrapbooking supplies and a Espresso ink pad and stamped the entire top of the table.

I still felt it needed something but I really didn't want a stencil on top of the stamp.

Then I saw the sheet with the outline of one of my stencils (you know its the piece left over after you remove your stencil) and thought why not. So I took some "Pure White" and painted the outline of the stencil.

Wow! I loved it! I liked the way the stamp showed through the white paint and that it just gave it a special touch.

When it was dry I applied a coat off clear, soft wax to the entire table then distressed the top thoroughly and the rest of the table here and there.  I let it dry overnight and the next day added another coat of soft wax then buffed until I had a soft sheen

Another wobbly table saved from the trash pile. I think it turned out really cute. What do you think? Be honest now. :-)

Before I go I just wanted to remind you about Transformed Tuesday Link Party. There is still time to link up so head on over and join in on the fun, or just check out all the inspiration.

So glad you stopped by.
