Favorite Projects of 2011

I hope all of you have a wonderful New Year that is blessed and all that you hope it will be.

I have only been blogging for a few months but I thought I would jump on the band wagon and share the five most visited post of 2011. You may click on the image to visit the full post.

Number five was "Crafty Day & Christmas Décor"

Number four was "Oh, la la" my blue and white French end table. One of my favorite pieces as the wash of Old White over the Louis Blue almost looked like suede. It sold the first day.

Number three  was “What A Shame” another one of my favorites this year.  A lovely buffet with beautiful cherry wood inlay that had been hidden under a thick poly finish.

Number two  was my “Dining Set Reveal” with the faux grain sack chair cushions. You may see the tutorial for the faux grain sack cushions here.

Here's a close up of the chair cushions.

And the most viewed post of 2011 was….are you ready? Smile
“Bird & Roses Buffet”! This piece is painted in ASCP "Versailles" and the top was painted using a piece of old lace and spray paint leaving the wood showing through on the design.  Click the image for full tutorial.

Hello my friends in blogger land.  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that your New Year will be the best ever.

Before we get to the free graphics I wanted to get my followers opinion of my new look.  What do you think do you like this more sophisticated stream lined look or the old more vintage pink look? Can't wait to hear from you.

Now its time again for free graphics please read the Disclosure Page before copying my images.

First I have this lacey New Year’s greeting.

I think there is a lot of potential in this piece. It could be broken down and used in so many different ways.

Next is this lovely lady in a Grecian style flowing gown, just beautiful.
Any of my sweet followers knowledgeable in antique fashions? I'm curious as to the time period of this photo.

Here she is without background and frame.

French Country Bed Bench Before and After

Hello fellow bloggers and friends I hope all your Christmas plans are going well and the shopping is done.

I have a lovely before and after today of a bed bench I picked up a while back at a local re-sale shop.

Here’s the after.

bedbench6

Now here is the before.

bedbench10

It did not look so bad but I wanted a more Country French look with a cushion.

First I painted it with about three coats of Annie Sloan’s new color Coco.  I then distressed it and dry brushed on a coat of Old White.

bedbench2

After the bench had dried I cut two pieces of waffled foam the kind you put on a bed. I used a queen size so that I would have a piece long enough.
bedbench3

I used upholstery glue to adhere the two pieces together and to glue it to the top. Next I covered the padding with batting and stapled it down.

bedbench4

I covered it with osenberger fabric because I feel that it looks the most like a grain sack.  I had transferred a cherub image, some flourishes and roses to the fabric using the Citrasolv method.  You can find the tutorial for using this transfer method here. The images came from The Graphic’s Fairy.

I hope you enjoyed this before and after as much as I enjoyed re-furbishing it. Smile

Decorating On A Dime With Refurbished Items

Hello everyone hope all your Christmas shopping and holiday plans are going well.

I thought I would share a few home décor items I just updated. I forgot to take a picture of the items before I started but the cherub was peeling gold and some kind of green finish.  The pedestal was that ugly, solid gold they were using in the 70’s and 80’s.

First, I painted two of the items with black acrylic paint.  The cherub with flower pot was already a dark silver.

pedestalblack

The pedestal being a solid, gold color did not show the beautiful details of the piece. It was the same with the praying angel and cherub flower pot.

angelpotcherub

To bring out those details I am going to be dry brushing them with ASCP “Old White”, but any type of latex or acrylic paint will do.  For those of you that are not familiar with this style of painting you use a dry brush and after dipping in the paint you wipe your brush on a piece of paper to remove most of the paint.

You then apply a light coat of paint going against the the details of the piece so as not to paint inside the lines of your image. This allows the images to stand out in relief against the background.

Here are the pieces with one coat of dry brushing.  Know that this is a very time consuming process and for the best results can not be rushed. Light coats with drying time in between are best.

pedestalcherub1

Already you can see the details popping out against the background.

pedestalcherub2

Here they are with two or three coats you can see on the paper where I wipe my brush to remove excess paint.

And here are the finished pieces.

I just love the gorgeous detail on these angels.

pedestalbase

I didn’t even notice this evil looking face until I started dry brushing.

The next time you are at a thrift store or re-sale shop look at the ugly things too.  With a little paint and powder they could end up being a gorgeous new piece for your home. Winking smile
